coalescence: the urban narrative
Works by Catherine Mackey exploring the rich layers of narrative found in our urban environments.
X Materia Opening reception: Friday October 26th 6-9PM
DZINE Gallery, 128 Utah St, San Francisco, CA 94103
X Materia takes its name from the Latin Creatio ex Materia, or creation out of matter; the premise being that existing material is transformed into something else. Mackey’s creative process begins with old posters acquired from city streets around the world. These layered, pre-used narratives, announcing music events, visiting circuses, and political campaigns are woven in with the many layers of paint from which the final image emerges. LEARN MORE
